This study aims to analyze the level of student interest in participating in basketball extracurricular activities at SMA Negeri 1 Gondang based on intrinsic and extrinsic factors and to examine differences in interest based on gender. This study used a quantitative method with a descriptive survey approach involving 25 students who were active participants in the basketball extracurricular program, selected using total sampling. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire adapted from previous research. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Independent Samples t-test, Repeated Measures ANOVA, and the Bonferroni post-hoc test. The results showed that the average level of interest among male students (M = 2.508) was higher than that of female students (M = 2.454); however, there was no significant difference based on gender (p = 0.127). There was a significant difference in the intrinsic factors (F = 2.58; p = 0.011), with the interest factor being the most dominant. Additionally, there was a significant difference in the extrinsic factors (F = 61.80; p < 0.001), where the environmental and coach factors had the strongest influence on students’ interest. This study demonstrates that increasing student participation in basketball extracurricular activities requires strengthening intrinsic motivation, supported by a conducive school environment and effective coaching. The novelty of this study lies in its simultaneous analysis of intrinsic and extrinsic factors, as well as a gender-based comparison of students’ interest in participating in basketball extracurricular activities in the context of high school
Kelvin Triandi Renaldi, Abdul Rachman Syam Tuasikal ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 http://sportscience.ppj.unp.ac.id/index.php/jss/article/view/324 Fri, 31 Jul 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Analysis of the Correlation Between Anxiety Levels and the Performance of Wushu Taolu Athletes in the Qualifying Round of the 2026 Central Java Provincial Sports Championships http://sportscience.ppj.unp.ac.id/index.php/jss/article/view/304
Anxiety levels can affect an athlete’s performance, particularly in sports like wushu taolu, which demand concentration, technical precision, and emotional stability. The Qualifying Round of the XVII/2026 Central Java Provincial Sports Week (PORPROV) Wushu Taolu is a high-pressure competitive event because it determines athletes’ advancement to the next stage, thereby potentially increasing anxiety before competition. This situation can lead to a decline in performance if not properly managed. This study was conducted to examine the correlation between anxiety and the performance of wushu taolu athletes in provincial-level competitions. This study employed a descriptive quantitative method using a correlational approach and a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 49 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Anxiety was measured using the CSAI-2R, and performance was based on judges’ scores. Data analysis was performed using the nonparametric Spearman’s rank correlation test with the assistance of SPSS version 30. The results showed that the athletes’ anxiety levels were in the low category (10%), moderate category (76%), and high category (14%). Meanwhile, athletes’ performance was categorized as low (11%), moderate (56%), and high (33%). The Spearman Rank correlation test yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.642 with a significance level of p < 0.001, indicating a strong relationship between anxiety levels and the performance of wushu taolu athletes. There is a significant correlation between anxiety levels and the performance of wushu taolu athletes. This relationship is positive, meaning that an increase in anxiety is followed by an increase in performance during competitions.
Diva Melani Putri, Dewi Anggraeni, Iqbal Indra Awaludin ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 http://sportscience.ppj.unp.ac.id/index.php/jss/article/view/304 Tue, 07 Jul 2026 00:00:00 +0000 The Effect of Plyometric Training on Kumite Karate Athletes' Mawashi Geri Kick Speed http://sportscience.ppj.unp.ac.id/index.php/jss/article/view/327
This study aims to determine the effect of plyometric training on mawashi geri kick speed among junior kumite karate athletes at SESKO AU Lembang karate club. The method used was a quantitative experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 20 athletes selected through purposive sampling technique. The treatment, consisting of plyometric exercises converted into the mawashi geri kick movement pattern, was given for six weeks with a frequency of three times per week. Kick speed was measured using a video analysis-based test instrument (Kinovea application) before and after the treatment. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test for hypothesis testing, and Cohen's d effect size calculation. The results showed that the average kick time decreased from 0.4465 seconds to 0.3738 seconds, with all samples (100%) experiencing an increase in speed. The Wilcoxon test showed a Z value of -3.921 and Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect, with Cohen's d = 1.14 (large category). These findings show that plyometric training is effective in increasing mawashi geri kick speed, and can therefore be recommended as part of a physical training program for junior kumite karate athletes.
Aulia Shafira, Boyke Mulyana, Mulyana Mulyana ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 http://sportscience.ppj.unp.ac.id/index.php/jss/article/view/327 Wed, 08 Jul 2026 00:00:00 +0000 The Effect of Teaching Games for Understanding on Volleyball Playing Skills of Junior High School Students http://sportscience.ppj.unp.ac.id/index.php/jss/article/view/320
This study aims to determine the significant effect of the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) learning model on improving volleyball playing skills of eighth-grade students at State Junior High School 1 (SMPN 1) Majalaya, Karawang Regency. The research method employed was quantitative experimental design using The Randomized Control Group Pretest-Posttest design. The study involved 68 students divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The learning intervention was implemented over 8 meetings. Data were collected using the Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI) and analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, homogeneity tests, paired samples t-test, independent samples t-test, and N-Gain Score calculations with a significance level of α = 0.05 using SPSS version 25. The research results revealed a very significant increase in the experimental group, with the mean pretest score of 6.01 increasing to a posttest score of 8.11, while the control group experienced only minimal improvement from 5.84 to 5.86. The independent samples t-test demonstrated a very significant difference between the mean posttest scores of the experimental and control groups (p=0.000) with a mean difference of 2.25 points. The N-Gain Score value in the experimental group was in the high category (0.72), while the control group was in the low category (0.05). In conclusion, the TGfU learning model has been proven empirically to be more effective and significant in improving volleyball playing skills compared to the Direct Instruction learning model in junior high school students.
Mochammad Ikhsanul Al Raffi, Ega Trisna Rahayu, Fauzi Miftakh ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 http://sportscience.ppj.unp.ac.id/index.php/jss/article/view/320 Tue, 14 Jul 2026 00:00:00 +0000 The Effect of Target Area Training on Open Smash Accuracy in Volleyball Players http://sportscience.ppj.unp.ac.id/index.php/jss/article/view/323
Low open smash accuracy among volleyball athletes and the limited application of accuracy-oriented training methods remain important challenges in volleyball coaching. Previous studies have primarily focused on target-based training for serving and passing skills, whereas the application of a progressively structured target area training program incorporating variations in target position, target distance, and attack direction to improve open smash accuracy has received limited attention. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effect of the target area training method on improving open smash accuracy among athletes of the PERBVOB Tawangmangu Volleyball Club. A quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, involving 20 male athletes aged 16-23 years selected through purposive sampling. The intervention was conducted over six weeks, with two training sessions per week, resulting in a total of 12 training sessions. Data were collected using a target zone-based open smash accuracy test and analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, a paired-samples t-test, and Cohen’s d effect size analysis with IBM SPSS Statistics version 27. The results revealed a statistically significant improvement in open smash accuracy following the intervention (p < 0.001), with a Cohen’s d value of 4.80, indicating a very large practical effect. These findings suggest that the target area training program may provide an effective approach for improving athletes’ open smash accuracy while offering a more contextual accuracy-based training model for volleyball coaching. Nevertheless, the relatively small sample size and the use of a quasi-experimental design without a control group limit the generalizability of the findings. Therefore, future studies are recommended to employ more rigorous experimental designs with control groups and larger sample sizes to further confirm the effectiveness of the target area training method.
Catur Arya Ar Rassyid, Vera Septi Sistiasih, Gatot Jariono, Hanif Nugroho ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 http://sportscience.ppj.unp.ac.id/index.php/jss/article/view/323 Wed, 15 Jul 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Analysis of Basic Shooting Skills in Soccer Among Extracurricular Participants at SMA Muhammadiyah Klaten http://sportscience.ppj.unp.ac.id/index.php/jss/article/view/318
This study aims to identify and describe the level of basic shooting technique skills among students participating in the football extracurricular activity at SMA Muhammadiyah Klaten. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach to provide an objective description of students' shooting abilities based on numerical data obtained through field testing. The research was conducted at SMA Muhammadiyah Klaten, Central Java, involving all 34 students participating in the football extracurricular activity using a total sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using a football shooting test instrument adapted from Sepdanius et al (2019), by providing three opportunities to perform a shot from a distance of 16.5 meters toward predetermined target areas on the goal. The assessment was conducted based on the aspects of target accuracy, movement execution, ball control, and technique consistency. The data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive statistics with the assistance of IBM SPSS Statistics to obtain frequency distributions and percentages. The results showed that the level of students' basic shooting technique skills was generally in the moderate category. Of the 34 students who participated in the test, 3 students (8.82%) were classified in the very good category, 11 students (32.36%) in the good category, 15 students (44.12%) in the moderate category, 5 students (14.70%) in the poor category, and no students were classified in the very poor category. These findings indicate that the football extracurricular training program has made a positive contribution to the development of students' shooting abilities, particularly in the aspects of accuracy, movement coordination, and shooting control. Therefore, continuous and structured training is required to further improve students' shooting skills so that they can support the achievement of more optimal football performance.
Aldi Danu Prakasa, Gatot Jariono, Nurhidayat Nurhidayat, Sudirman Burhanuddin ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 http://sportscience.ppj.unp.ac.id/index.php/jss/article/view/318 Thu, 16 Jul 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Development of SiKembar Gizi: Integrating Pop-Up Book and GIZI GO Games as a Balanced Nutrition Education Media to Improve Nutrition Literacy and Physical Activity at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri 8 Bireuen http://sportscience.ppj.unp.ac.id/index.php/jss/article/view/338
This study aimed to develop and determine the feasibility and implementation outcomes of SiKembar Gizi (Creative Synergy of Nutrition Learning Based on Pop-Up Book and GIZI GO) as a learning medium integrating nutrition literacy and students’ physical activity.
